The story of archaeologists/tomb raiders/adventurers who go to Egypt to find glory and wealth is common in slots. When the New Zealand game studio Just for the win takes on the theme, it is done with a very special style that divides the slot lovers into two camps.

For the graphics, Just for the win has chosen a simple model. Sure, the resolution is very high, but there are not very many graphic elements and the graphics can be said to have features of comic book graphics. Some players may find it refreshing with the large, quite simply designed and animated symbols. Others might think that JTFW has taken some shortcuts.

According to the title, we are allowed to make a visit to the temple of Tut. Then who is Tut? It is, of course, about Tutankhamun. This Pharaoh did not succeed when it set out, and he died when he was only 19 years old (probably murdered). Tutankhamun is still perhaps the most famous pharaoh, simply because in 1922 the archaeologist Howard Carter found his temple and burial chamber completely untouched. One of the character symbols on the reels is probably to represent just Howard Carter. With him, he has a soapy male adventurer and a mysterious female companion.

The gameplay idea in Temple of Tut is something special as you win from both sides (just like in Starburst). It automatically makes you win quite often. Special features include wilds, super reels and free spins.

Stakes and winnings

Temple of Tut is a smooth story in terms of the betting options. You have 10 fixed paylines (going both ways) to hit on the five reels. You always play with fixed bets and when you record a win, your total bet is multiplied by the win value of the respective symbol. Here, then, coins, bet levels and the like do not matter. For example, three in a row with the symbol representing an older gentleman will give 2x the bet, while five wilds in a row will give 25 times the bet. The minimum bet is$ 1 while the maximum bet is$2500.

According to the rules of the game, the Temple of Tut has a medium level volatility. At the same time, the maximum profit is a meager 250 times the bet. It's a somewhat strange combination! The bottom line is that you can wait for the winning spins with quite a few dead spins while the average win will be slightly higher than the average. The biggest win will take you home with full screen wilds and/or the character symbol representing the mysterious woman.

Temple of Tut RTP is 96.01% over time. The majority of New Zealand slots are above that number, so we're not quite as impressed with the payback.

Symbols

The design team at Just for the win has made sure to provide the game with unique symbols. What we mean by that is that there are no generic playing card symbols. All icons are custom made.

In the base game there is a scatter and seven paying icons. The Wild symbol, representing Tutankhamun's death mask, only appears in the Super Reels feature (see below). The Joker and the image of a mysterious woman make up the highest paying icons. An elderly gentleman and a young adventurer come next on the list of the most valuable symbols. The four low-profit symbols represent various pieces of jewelry that King Tut supposedly brought with him in the burial chamber.

Super Reels

Above the five reels you can see Golden Scarabs. From time to time, these small insects open their wings and turn the respective wheels into ”super wheels”. You can get anywhere between one and five superwheels activated at the same time.

When a reel gets transformed, 50% of the reel will be populated by stacked icons. One of the icons that can come stacked is the Joker. The idea of this feature is that you should get the chance to get complete reels with either jokers or symbols that complement the symbols on the other reels. It is with Super Reels that you have the best chance of getting a full screen and thus picking up the maximum win.

Note that there are no wilds on the reels in the base game. You need to activate Super Reels to get jokers on the screen.

Free spins

The logo for the game is scatter. It is only there to activate free spins. Unfortunately, it does not offer a traditional scatter win. If you manage to get three or more scatters, the game screen opens up and you get to step into Tutankhamun's tomb and Treasury. The result will be free spins according to the schedule below:

As you can see from our ratings of potential, graphics and entertainment above, and as you can read between the lines of the review, we are not overly excited by Temple of Tut. If we are going to summarize the game in a single word, then, unfortunately, it will be the word ”boring”. Temple of Tut rarely provides excitement when the reels spin and once something starts to happen, you are reminded that the maximum winnings are extremely low 250 times the bet.

It is clear that the game can provide some entertainment if you are a fan of games with the theme of adventure and/or Egypt, but we can recommend that you rather take a look at Just for the win's other titles. They are much better and more entertaining.
